When & Where

March 21-22, 2026

Steve's Studio, 79 Teawaddle Hill Rd, Leverett, MA 01054, USA

Details

10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday

Join us for this immersive two-day figure sculpting workshop in which we will work in clay to create a reclining figure from a live model. Through lectures, demonstrations, and practice students will learn how to analyze a pose, make observations, understand essential anatomy, establish proportions, and capture gesture. The spirit of this workshop will encourage the sharing of ideas and appreciating the process of sculpting from life.

There will be an option to have your work fired (which will require students taking extra time after the workshop concludes to hollow out sculptures).

Beginners as well as experienced sculptors are welcome.

Small class size.

We'd like to make this workshop accessible to all. Please contact Steve for sliding scale options.

Materials

Cost of clay and firing (optional) is included in the workshop tuition.

Sculpting Tools

Please bring any sculpting tools you have. The following tools are recommended if you do not have similar ones. There will be tools available to borrow.

Reference Material

  • Edouard Lanteri, Modeling and Sculpting the Human Figure – strongly recommended for each student to have. We will use this book closely as a reference. It is the “bible” of many sculptors.

  • Dr. Paul Richer, Artistic Anatomy – an essential anatomy reference for all figurative artists of any medium.
