SCULPTOR
Commissions
I work with each client from inspiration to installation. I begin the process by meeting with the client to understand their goals and vision, then embark upon my own research and sketching, then move to making a clay maquette (small “sketch” of the intention). Upon client approval, I will then work on sculpting the final form, after which a mold is made, a wax positive is cast, and the piece is cast in bronze or other medium appropriate for the piece. The final sculpture is either mounted to a base or permanently installed on location.
Please contact me if you are interested in commissioning a sculpture or inquiring about the availability, prices and further description of the works on this website.

"My wife Margrit and I had the life-affirming experience of being caregivers for my father-in-law, Ed Benton, toward the end of his nearly 96 years. Ed was a great man in his community and a gold standard father and father-in-law. Margrit and I miss him terribly.
Years ago, I admired a bust Steve Saxenian created of his own father. I asked if he would be willing to sculpt one of Ed. Despite never having met Ed, Steve committed to the challenge. He dug deep into Ed's biography, interviewing us, reviewing our photo and video archives, and studying Ed's obituary and old tributes to understand the man behind the images.
When Steve sent the first photos of the clay model, the images took our breath away. Steve had captured Ed beautifully. Now cast in bronze, the bust radiates Ed's dignity, kindness, integrity, and even his mischievousness. It gives us immense joy to see Ed every day and to have him with us in our home. We love Steve's work as do all of Ed's longtime friends who've seen the bust." - Mark Nelson

“Even the most insignificant head is the dwelling place of life … and so offers inexhaustible matter for the masterpiece.” – Auguste Rodin
